Magic Pony Opening - Thursday December 1st, 6:00pm

I know it's last minute, but everyone who can make it should come to Magic Pony tomorrow (Thursday) night for the opening of the Partridges and Pear Trees show. Some of our favourite artists are contributing to the show so we anticipate that it will be a wonderful collection of work. Hopefully we can get away from the One of a Kind Show (only four more days, thank God) for long enough to spend some time at the opening. Our piece was dropped off a couple of weeks ago - you all may remember Beatrice.

The Monster Factory at the One of a Kind Show

Day two of the show is over and things are as hectic as ever. The new monsters are proving to be quite popular and we are doing our best to keep our stock up. The show is down at the EX (National Trade Centre building) for anyone who wants to come down and check it out. The hours are M-F 11:00am to 10:00pm, SAT 10:00 am to 9:oopm, and SUN 10:00am to 6:00pm. Admission is $12. There are over 700 vendors in the show so there is a lot to see. We recommend bringing some food with you because the food at the National Trade Centre costs a zillions dollars. Water is $3.25! If you're going to throw that kind of money around you'd be better off buying lots of monsters...right?

The Monster Factory Quote of the Day...After all.

The MFQD hiatus has been brief to say the least. Bowing to public pressure there will be a quote today.

Bliss - "What is the quote of the day?"
Adam - "There isn't one"
Bliss - "Didn't we say anything funny?"
Adam - "No."
Meet Beatrice!

Last Night we put the finishing touches on Beatrice, our monster for Magic Pony's "Partridges & Pear Trees" show. The show starts on December 1st. We will be sure to post a reminder closer to the turn of the month. If you get a chance to see Beatrice in person be sure to check out her embroidery, Rhya was up very late adding these details.

The Monster Factory Quote of the Day

Today's quote was the finale to a story told by Bliss' stepfather Joe. He was describing how growing up in China all the children were forced to be right-handed. Joe, unfortunately, was left-handed. This was his shop class experience:

"At school they taught me how to hit my left hand with my right hand."

Stop the Presses!

The Monster Factory just got it's hands on Jakob Tanner's piece about us that appeared in last Thursday's Brand New Planet. What great coverage! Brand New Planet is a supplimentary section of the Toronto Star "written by kids, for kids". We were all very happy to read the article. Thanks Jakob, it was a pleasure to have you by the studio. Everyone here thinks you did a fine job on the article, it's our favourite press piece to date.

The Monster Factory Quote of the Day

It seems that the MFQD has taken over our blog. Hopefully there should be some real posts tomorrow and day after. Until then here's today's quote, as delivered by Xandra.

(Xandra's take on hot tubs)
"Sitting in a tepid pool of your own filth is not my idea of fun."

The Monster Factory Quote of the Day

Today's MFQD comes to us courtesy of Rhya. We were discussing the topic of imaginary friends.

"When I was young I had an imaginary friend named Pretty... I hated her."

The Monster Factory Quote of the Day

Today's MFQD come to us from a lunchtime meeting with Caley Tessier and Dimitris Stubos. Aside from being close friends of the Factory they also handle our taxes. They work for an accountant named Lory Berger and have recently been blogging their daily experiences in the office.

It's funny: http://www.dimitrisandcaleyatwork.blogspot.com

And now, without further ado, is it MFQD:

(Caley on KFC cole slaw)
"If it burns that means it's good"
(Caley on "the truth")
"If it stings you know it's right"

New!!! The Monster Factory Quote of the Day!!!

Inspired by some of the funnier, and more bizarre things that are said at the Monster Factory I have decided to start posting the "Monster Factory Quote of the Day". I have been jotting down some of the better (?) quotes I overheard from my desk for the past month and have decided that it's time to go public. Please note that all quotes are verbatim. For those of you who know the Monster team hopefully you'll get a chuckle out of it. As for those of you that don't know us as well, I hope you don't think we have "problems".

Anyway, here goes. The Inaugural MFQD:

(adam and bliss, discussing a new sewing technique)
a - "It will speed things up like lightning"
b - "Like speed-lightning!"
a - "No, not that fast."

Field Life

Yesterday evening we dropped off our "Field Life" series of monsters for the Shelf Project at C1 Art Space. The project gave us a chance to experiment with some new monster forms that have thus far been relegated to our sketchbooks. Rhya came up with Field Life a couple of months ago and has been waiting for an opportunity to take them further. We were all quite happy with these new monsters and will definitely continue to develop them.

The Shelf Project runs from November 7 to December 31
C1 Art Space
44 Ossignton Ave, just north of Queen St West

Please join us for the reception on Friday November 11 @ 7pm

It's Raining at the Monster Factory

We are just wrapping up a side project for Splashworks, creating a monster version of their logo "Little Drip". Pictured above are 167 of the drips, finished yesterday.
