Meet our Juki DDL-555. This is one of our two industrial sewing machines. Without it we would not be able to produce a fraction of the monsters that we do. It’s so good, it’s bad-ass good. Despite being able to do only one type of stitch (straight) it has the ability to do it well, consistently, and for a long, long time. Let’s just say it’s no sissy machine.
The Juki DDL-555 was a gift from my stepfather, Joe. I got it while I was in school studying fashion. At the time I didn’t appreciate having my own industrial sewing machine and opted to use the machines at school instead. Little did I know that I had a gem of a Juki just sitting in my living room.
Soon after school ended my mom threatened to sell it at one of our garage sales since I had been neglecting it. I was able to plead my case and promise to start making better use of it. Coincidently that’s when we started making monsters. And that’s when I discovered that I had the BEST machine ever! It’s true, we love it, our interns love it, it sews like a dream…and that’s just the way we like it. Thanks little Juki, we love you!
This Juki is old school. It was even made in Japan. Newer versions aren't anymore...they're made in China.
Juki even has a face.

These markings help guide us while we sew. Our favourite is 1/4"seam allowance.

i as well have recently bought a juki ddl-555 and can't seem to get it to pick up the bobbin thread as i'm sewing..we've timed it and done everything we can with the instruction manual..everything short of finally taking it to the sewing machine doctor..

You can slow down the machine by putting a big hunk of foam underneath the foot petal. You can also get a regulator for it.

I have one of these too, to make them go slow it is all in the way you use the pedal, I use one foot forward and one foot back, on the pedal, then you can even go one stitch at a time if you like, love the machine

The juki DDL-555 is a very good machine but it is not suitable for leathers.It is suitable for all kinds of cotton or synthetic materials except leathers and plastics.For better results in leathers you can use a Teflon foot it is very cheap . For leathers there is a different machine with transport walking foot.
Yes you can sew leather on this machine but not heavy -weight leather. If your stitches are skipping or not sewing properly it could be that you a=have the wrong needle Or the needle is in wrong. There is a long groove down one side of the needle and this should be on the left as you are looking at the machine. This machine has the needle threaded from the left of the machine to the right and not straight ahead as domestic machines. I hope this helps.

I have the same sewing machine, but it depends on your type of fabrics you want to use, my old model juki ddl 555,cant be use for jersey and thicker fabric but the new ones are better. if you want to use leather or thicker fabrics better ask the shio where you bought it, if the settings are good for your fabrics. Every type of fabric will also need different types of needles. Ask them, wgat attachment needed. Usually is the machine is set for softer fabric and switching for very thick o ce sometimes the quality of your sewing will change.
if it is leather type, you need to wipe some oil, on it if the leather is not too sensitive. To make it easier for sewing.
